Nine of our young people are attending Mennonite Colleges this fall. In order for the church to continue the tradition of committing $1000 towards the tuition for each student, we invite the congregation tojoin us for a mealafter Sunday School onSunday, October 12. So, instead of going out to eat after church on the 12th, please join us for a spaghetti dinner to help support our young people's education at a Mennonite College.

***************************************************************** Mennonite Manor Benefit Day Help
For their Benefit Day, the Mennonite Manor is asking our church to provide them with 80 dozen homemade cookies (no more than 8 dozen Chocolate Chip cookies per church). Please bring your cookies (packages so they will not dry out) to the Hobby Room in the Independent Living area by 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, (OR by 10:00 a.m. to our church kitchen).
Also needed are six pies for the lunch room. Pie pans and bags are in the Church foyer. Homemade breads, cinnamon rolls, noodles, and pies are very good sellers. Food items will be accepted until 10:00 a.m. on Benefit Day. Other homemade or novelty items are appreciated. Please bring these items no later than Thursday, October 9, to theTo Gather Shoppewhich opens into the east auction courtyard.

MCC Meat Canner
It is time to circle some dates on your calendar Thursday, Nov. 6, and Friday, Nov. 7, 2008. Don't want you to miss the opportunities to get involved with the 2008 MCC meat canning project.
After 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, people will be cleaning and preparing the Cedar Crest School facility for the arrival of the canner. Some brawn will be needed then as well as for the meat stirring during the canning process.First Mennonite is scheduled for the time slot on Friday, Nov. 7, from 4:30 p.m. to close (10-10:30 p.m.)FMC is also asked tosupply food for the snack bar (meat, cheese, relishes, cookies, fruit) for that shift, as well as 8 quarts of soup and 1 pound of crackers.Those working at the canning can bring their food contributions out when they come.Otherscan leave any prepared foods at the churchby noon onNov. 7.Bill & Thea will furnish 4 quarts of chili and the crackers. Kansas Voluntary Service Local Leadership Conference
The Hutchinson Voluntary Local Leaders Committee will be hosting approximately25-30 local leadersfrom other VS Units in the U.S.at First Mennonite Church, October 23rdthrough 26th.We will begin the weekend with awelcome dinneronThursdayevening, October 23rd.All day Friday will be spent in Newton at the Mennonite Mission Network offices, capped with an evening meal atThe Bread Basket.We will havemeetings and meals inFellowship Hall all day Saturday, October 25th.The weekend will conclude with our guests attending our church for morning worship(Hugo Saucedo will be guest speaker)and a Potluck Dinner. The First Mennonite Congregation is invited to participate in this Potluck meal by helping us provide food for our guests before sending them on their journey home. This would involve bringing whatevermain dish, side dish, and/or dessertyou would be gracious enough to make and share in fellowship with our guests and each other.
We are also looking for people to help us accommodate these guests for a couple of nights. If you have a spare bedroom and would be willing to host someone, please let me, or Pat Peters, know. If anyone has any questions
