********************************************************************** This Is For You….
After a delightful morning with our MVS guests on October 26, and a great Potluck Dinner, everyone is neededto stay as we do the work of the church at our annual Congregational Budget Meeting immediately after the meal.
The ministry teams and church leaders have done their part in preparing for this meeting and pulling together information that you need to help make decisions. But the work is only half done until you, the congregation, make final discernment and decisions.
Anxieties are high this year. Fear about finances is everywhere. What guides our process and decisions? How do we understand our calling in the light of our current reality? What difference, if any, does it make that we are the body of Christ? It is the task ofeveryonein the church to participate in the work, the discernment, the decision, and the giving. Come on October 26; stay on October 26; be the church on October 26…..as we do this worktogether!!!!!

It is time to circle some dates on your calendar Thursday, Nov. 6, and Friday, Nov. 7, 2008. Don't want you to miss the opportunities to get involved with the 2008 MCC meat canning project.

Some brawn will be needed then as well as for the meat stirring during the canning process.First Mennonite is scheduled for the time slot on Friday, Nov. 7, from 4:30 p.m. to close (10-10:30 p.m.)FMC is also asked tosupply food for the snack bar (meat, cheese, relishes, cookies, fruit) for that shift, as well as 8 quarts of soup and 1 pound of crackers. Those working at the canning can bring their food contributions out when they come.Otherscan leave any prepared foods at the churchby noon onNov. 7.Bill & Thea will furnish 4 quarts of chili and the crackers. Mennonite Voluntary Service Local Leadership Conference
The Hutchinson VS Local Leaders Committee will be hosting approximately 25-30 local leaders from other VS Units in the U.S. at First Mennonite later this month. We will be responsible for meals and meeting space on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Friday will be spent in Newton at the MCUSA offices. The weekend will conclude with our guests attending our church for morning worship and a Potluck Dinner. Hugo Saucedo, Director of MVS, will be our guest speaker. As the host congregation, First Mennonite is invited to participate in the Potluck Meal by helping us provide food for our guests before sending them on their journey home. This will involve bringing whatever main dish, side dish, and/or dessert you would be gracious enough to make and share in fellowship with our guests and each other, on Sunday, October 26th, immediately following Sunday School.
We are still looking for a few more beds to accommodate these guests for overnight lodging. If you have a spare bedroom and would be willing to host someone, please let me, or Pat Peters, know. If anyone has any questions about this conference, please feel free to ask us. Thank you for your support and input!!!
